Cryo-EM has developed into a powerful tool for studying the fine detail of biological structure required in areas such as drug discovery. Despite this, producing quality frozen grids with vitreous ice of an appropriate thickness and evenly distributed particles remains a key bottleneck in the structure determination workflow. Currently, highly skilled manual handling is required; causing a significant learning curve. Chameleon automates the consistent application of samples to high-quality foil grids for cryo-EM analysis, saving time and improving research outcomes across a range of projects.
Chameleon’s aim is to enable automated, rapid progress to the perfect ice thickness for a range of samples by offering:
- Precise automated grid handling
With almost no manual handling required, chameleon eliminates common grid damage and loss issues to increase workflow efficiency and reduce waste. - In-line glow discharge
Easily apply real time adjustments to perfect your sample behavior and achieve the perfect ice thickness. - Blot-free high-speed plunging
The blot-free technology using self-wicking grids minimizes variability and allows rapid on-the-fly sample dispensing to reduce air-water interface effects and potentially address preferred orientation, aggregation or denaturation effects. - Onboard cameras provide visual images during freezing
Accept or reject grids ahead of EM screening based on visual images of likely grid quality. - Cryogen level sensing/temperature control
Ensure stability and quality of cryogens while safely kept in an automated drawer. - Guided workflows enable simple set up, use and cleaning
Guided workflows provide easy set-up, use and cleaning of the instrument for even novice users. - Sample tracking and recording
Capture all relevant parameters and grid images for record keeping and future reproducibility.
