Prof. Shang-Cheng Hung awarded 2024 Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience Research Grant

Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience is a non-profit organization in Japan. The objective of the Foundation is to promote world-wide progress in glycoscience. In accordance with this objective, the Foundation provides research grants to outstanding proposals for basic and applied studies on glycoconjugate in the fields of organic chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, cellular biology and medical sciences.

Prof. Hung has dedicated himself to the field of glycomedicine for an extended period. His team is a leading group in heparan sulfate synthesis. They will construct a complete set of glycosaminoglycans (GAG) oligosaccharide library and develop the GAG-microarray for screening specific binding affinities with a variety of proteins, which are responsible for diseases. The results would offer unique and potent opportunities in defining GAG-protein interactions via structure-activity relationship (SAR) evaluations that could be applied for diagnosis, prevention, and new drug discovery against diseases. Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience received 117 research grant applications from 30 countries in 2023. Dr. Shang-Cheng Hung's outstanding research achievements stood out among them, earning him this honor.
